Historic
Saugeen Shores has a rich history from its settling in the 1800's through its development today. Our area development is proudly showcased in exhibits at
Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre. Each section of Saugeen Shores;
Port Elgin,
Southampton and
Saugeen Township, has its individual history that is showcased in
historical walking tours of the areas. Southampton, the oldest Port on the Bruce, has a historical waterfront with
Pioneer Park,
Shipwrecks, and the
boardwalk. Check out the big
Southampton flag at Millard Boulevard. Visit, just off the coast about 1 mile from the Southampton shoreline,
Chantry Island where tours are offered of the lighthouse and keepers quarters. Come and travel back in time in Saugeen Shores.
