Licence Issuing Bureau

The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is an authorized Licensing Bureau Agent for ServiceOntario. Although the Licensing Bureau is not staffed by ServiceOntario employees we are still required to adhere to ServiceOntario's stringent rules and regulations.

For your convenience...

  • We are open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Monday to Friday (closed between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.) for lunch
  • We are located at 559 Goderich Street
  • Average wait time is 5 to 10 minutes
  • Busy times - Fridays and end of month
  • ServiceOntario will not allow us to accept personal cheques; so please bring either cash, a certified cheque, company cheque (with the company name & address printed on it), credit card or debit card

Renewing Vehicle Plates

What to bring:

  • The renewal application
  • Your vehicle permit
  • Valid Insurance
  • A vehicle emissions pass report may be required
  • Accurate Odometer reading
  • Fee shown on renewal form

Tips:

  • Please be reminded - sticker renewal is due on your birthday, not the end of month
  • New in 2004 - Odometer information is mandatory

Renewing Driver's License

What to bring:

  • The renewal application sent to you
  • Your Driver's License
  • The fee indicated on renewal application
  • Hats are NOT permitted in photographs

You will be asked to sign the application, show identification, and pay the required renewal amount and have your photograph taken, if required.

Temporary ("T") Validation (Replace Trip Permits)

  • Allows a vehicle to be operated for a 10-day period (limit of 2 within 365 days)
  • Bring your fit Ontario ownership, signed off from the previous owner and completed in the new owners name
  • Valid Insurance
  • Used vehicle information package or affidavit (if eligible for a family gift etc)
  • Plate portion for plates you wish to attach or you may purchase a set for $20.00
  • Vehicle must be transferred to the new owner, pay applicable tax, $15.00 for "T" validation and $20.00 if new plates are required
  • Safety and emissions test is not required at this time

Transferring a vehicle into your name

What to bring:

  • Vehicle permit, with the application for transfer on the reverse completed
  • Plate permit (if attaching your plate to vehicle)
  • Used Vehicle Information Package
  • Safety Standards Certificate (if vehicle to be registered as fit)
  • Vehicle Emissions Pass Report, if required
  • Identification
  • Payment for retail sales tax, vehicle registration fees and, if required, new license plates
  • Vehicles over 20 years old require an appraisal

Other vehicle transactions include:

  • Replacement - plates, validation sticker, vehicle permit
  • Used Vehicle Information Package
  • Changes to information on owner or vehicle
  • Abstract without address
  • Disabled parking permit
  • Personalized plate orders
  • Outstanding parking fines, Hwy 407 toll fees (if they have gone into default)
  • Family gift affidavits for vehicle transfers
  • Change vehicles from out of province to Ontario registration

Other Driver transactions include:

  • Replacement driver's license
    (need 2 pieces of Government Identification and fee)
  • Changes to license information
  • Abstract without address
  • Handbook sales (cash only)
  • Instructor License renewal and replacement
  • License downgrade (no test)
  • Reinstatement (no test)
