Notice of Construction: Coulter Parkette & Green Street

Posted on Thursday August 31, 2017

Coulter Parkette and Green Street between Goderich Street and Waterloo Street

The Town of Saugeen Shores has worked closely with the Port Elgin BIA to make planned capital improvements to the Goderich Street Streetscape in a phased approach.  The Town committed to the reconstruction of Coulter Parkette, located on the northwest corner of the Green Street and Goderich Street intersection, in the 2017 Capital budget.

The Goderich Street Streetscape Improvements – Coulter Parkette project includes:

  • Removal and reconstruction of the existing streetscape;
  • Removal of the existing interlocking stone and replacement with poured concrete;
  • Electrical work;
  • Irrigation work;
  • Landscaping work;
  • Construction of a new 1.5m wide concrete sidewalk;
  • Construction of a water feature; and
  • Construction of a stage shelter pavilion.

The project is to commence after September 5th and it to be completed by November 15th, 2017.

There will be a one to two week break in the work once the existing streetscape is removed to allow the adjacent building owner to complete foundation work on the building located on the north side of the parkette.

All properties will have vehicular access other than when the contractor is working directly in front of their driveway. Access will be restored as soon as possible. Driveway access will be restricted during the 1.5m wide concrete sidewalk installation and curing process, which is normally less than 48 hours.

Service Interruptions

There may be some brief interruptions to your water and electrical service while connections are being changed. You will be advised of any planned interruptions. If interruptions occur due to a waterline break or other unforeseeable circumstances, service will be restored as soon as possible.

If you have any encroachments on Municipal property such as; sprinkler heads, lights, planters, rocks, flower beds, etc. please remove them or have them clearly marked and best efforts will be made to avoid them. However, the Town will not be held responsible for damage to these and other items that may be on municipal property and close to the contractors work zone.

Recycling and Garbage Pick-up

During this time of construction we would ask that recycling and garbage pick-up be carried out as normal by the homeowner.  If the portion of road in front of your home is closed the contractor will move your garbage/recycling to an area that the collection trucks can access and bring your containers back to your property.  Please put your house number on your blue box and or garbage can so it can be returned to the correct house.

Special Event or Circumstance

If you have a special event planned at your property or require special needs on a given day, please advise the Town office well in advance and every attempt will be made to schedule the work to prevent or reduce interference with your planned activities.

If during the course of the project you have any complaints, questions and comments or if you wish to meet to discuss the construction please contact project staff.
