Municipal Election 2010

The Municipal Election for the Corporation of the Town of Saugeen Shores will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 for the following offices:

Mayor one (1) to be elected by all electors in the Town of Saugeen Shores

Deputy Mayor one (1) to be elected by all electors in the Town of Saugeen Shores

Vice Deputy Mayor one (1) to be elected by all electors in the Town of Saugeen Shores

Port Elgin Ward Councillor two (2) to be elected by the electors located in the Port Elgin Ward (map - pdf format)

Saugeen Ward Councillor two (2) to be elected by the electors located in the Saugeen Ward (map - pdf format)

Southampton Ward Councillor two (2) to be elected by the electors located in the Southampton Ward (map - pdf format)

Trustee, Bluewater District School Board to be determined by the school board

Trustee, Bruce-Grey District Catholic School Board to be determined by the school board

Trustee, Le Conseil Scolaire De District Du Centre-Sud Quest (French Language Public School Board) to be determined by the school board

Trustee, Le Conseil Scolair De District Des Ecoles Catholiques Du Sud-Quest (French Language Separate School Board) to be determined by the school board


Nominations:

Nomination papers must be filed with the Clerk of the Town of Saugeen Shores by 2:00 p.m.  on Friday, September 10, 2010.

Nomination papers may be filed by candidates or an agent commencing on January 4, 2010 through September 9, 2010 during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) Monday to Friday and on "Nomination Day", Friday, September 10, 2010 between the hours of 9:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m. 

The nomination must be in the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed fee. (Nomination Form: Form 1 - pdf)

At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the prescribed nomination fee ($200.00 for the office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices) by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order, payable to the Town of Saugeen Shores.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to determine whether they are qualified to be an elector to hold the office for which they are nominated.   Each person interested in being a candidate should refer to the Information for Candidates guide (pdf), The Municipal Elections 2010 Guide (pdf), the Municipal Act, the Education Act, the Municipal Elections Act regarding qualifications required for the office. Qualifications to Vote:

To be an eligible elector in the Town of Saugeen Shores, you have to be:

  • A Canadian Citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Reside in the Town of Saugeen Shores or be an owner or tenant of land in the Town of Saugeen Shores, or the spouse of an owner or tenant in the Town of Saugeen Shores; and
  • Not be prohibited from voting under any law
 

Key Dates:

January 4 to September 9, 2010    Nominations may be filed 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
                                                  Monday to Friday in the Clerk's Office

September 10, 2010                     "Nomination Day" Nominations may be filed from 
                                                   9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Clerk's Office

September 10, 2010                     Last Day for a candiate to withdraw a nomination
                                                   (2:00 p.m. deadline)

September 13, 2010                     The Clerk must certify or reject the nomination
                                                   paper by 4:00 p.m.

September 15, 2010                      Additional Nominations: In the event that sufficient
                                                   nominations have not been received to fill any
                                                   particular office, additional nominations may be filed
                                                   from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Clerk's Office.

September 16, 2010                      List of candidates declared elected by acclaimation to
                                                   be posted.  List of candidates to be elected to be
                                                   posted.

October 25, 2010                          "Voting Day" voting ends at 8:00 p.m.

October 26, 2010                          Clerk to declare Offiicial Results

December 31, 2010                       End of Campaign Period

January 3, 2011                            Notify Clerk of a deficit and continuation of campaign 
                                                   period.

March 25, 2011                            Filing Deadline for Financial Reports from all nominated
                                                  candidates (2:00 p.m. deadline). The financial report is
                                                  a prescribed form (Form 4 - pdf).
