Garbage Collection

Household Garbage

All household garbage must be at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. Garbage must be protected from rodents, animals, insects and birds. The municipality is not responsible for garbage not placed in a proper container. Please do not place animal waste or ashes in your household garbage, as it will not be collected.

Contact the Municipal Office if you need assistance with your garbage collection day.

Garbage Bag Tags

Please note that as of June 1st, 2008 every bag of garbage must be tagged for residential and commercial pickup. Bag tags cost $1.50 per tag and can be purchased at the following locations:

Port Elgin: Saugeen Shores Municipal Office, Legault's Independent Grocer, Ralph's Hiway Shoppette, Shoreline Beacon Newspaper, Giant Tiger, Shoppers Drug Mart, Port Elgin Home Hardware, Mac's, Petro-Can 

Southampton: Martin's Home Hardware, Downs Pro Hardware, Southampton Foodland, Southampton Landfill Site

Paisley: Paisley Foodland

The Port Elgin Landfill is now CLOSED.

The Southampton Landfill is open on the following days:

Monday          9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday    9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Friday            9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday        9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Southampton Landfill is located on Concession 14 in Southampton. (519-797-2863)

Please Note: Please arrive at the landfill 15 minutes before closing time as no garbage is accepted after this time in order to allow staff time to cover and do necessary paper work.

The landfill accepts electronic waste, styrofoam, fluorescent and UV lights and has a battery recycling depot. (Batteries can also be dropped off at local libraries and at the Municipal Office.)

Bagged Leaf Collection

Only leaves placed in kraft bags will be picked up.
Bags are not to weigh more than 11 kilograms or 25 pounds.
Bags must be at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. for pickup.

Compost Site

Located on Concession 14 just before Landfill Site.
Open daily for deposit and taking. Accepts leaves, twigs, grass clippings, and dead plants.
