Garbage Collection & Landfill

"PAY AS YOU THROW" (PAYT) Waste Management Program

The Town of Saugeen Shores has implemented our "Pay As You Throw" (PAYT) garbage collection and waste management program. The Program encompasses garbage collection, recycling and landfill operations.

All residential and commercial properties within Saugeen Shores will be required to purchase and place a Bag Tag on every bag of garbage placed at the curb for collection.

All household garbage must be at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. Garbage must be protected from rodents, animals, insects and birds. The municipality is not responsible for garbage not placed in a proper container. Please do not place animal waste or ashes in your household garbage, as it will not be collected.

Garbage Bag Tags

Bag tags cost $2.00 per tag and can be purchased at the following locations:

Port Elgin:  Giant Tiger, Mac's, Petro Canada, Port Elgin Home Hardware, Ralph's Hi-way Shoppette, Rowland's Independant Grocer, Saugeen Shores Municipal Office, Shopper's Drug Mart and the Shoreline Beacon Newspaper

Southampton: Downs Pro Hardware, Lucky Convenience, Mac's, Martin's Home Hardware, Southampton Foodland, Southampton Landfill Site Office

Paisley: Paisley Foodland

The Southampton Landfill is open on the following days:

Monday          9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday    9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Friday            9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday        9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Port Elgin Landfill is now CLOSED.

The Southampton Landfill is located at 126 Concession 14 in Saugeen Shores.

Please Note: Please arrive at the landfill 15 minutes before closing time as no garbage is accepted after this time in order to allow staff time to cover and do necessary paper work.

The landfill accepts electronic waste, styrofoam, fluorescent and UV lights and has a battery recycling depot. (Batteries can also be dropped off at local libraries and at the Municipal Office.)

Compost Site

Located on Concession 14 in Saugeen Shores just before Landfill Site.
Open daily for deposit and taking. Accepts leaves, twigs, grass clippings, and dead plants.
