Mayor Luke Charbonneau congratulates the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club

SSLC takes home awards at National Surf Lifesaving Championships and Ontario Waterfront Lifesaving Championships

Saugeen Shores is celebrating water safety after two recent wins by the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLC) and a new, award-winning Waterfront Safety Guide.

Twelve athletes from the SSLC took home 2nd place at the National Surf Lifesaving Championships in Halifax this past August and the club as a whole achieved junior and senior championship banner wins at the Ontario Waterfront Lifesaving Championships hosted in Saugeen Shores earlier in the month.

Grant funding received from Bruce Power to host the championships in town also included the creation of the new Waterfront Safety Guide. The guide was recognized internationally by the Apex Awards for Publication Excellence in the “One-of-a-Kind Publication” category—the only Canadian publication to win in this category.

“Congratulations to the SSLC on their wins this summer,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “These successes and the award-winning Waterfront Safety Guide underscore Saugeen Shores’ ongoing focus on promoting safety in and around water.”

The Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club is a fundamental program offered through the Town of Saugeen Shores with Cassidy Kazimer as Club’s head coach for the 2019 season.

The Waterfront Safety Guide is available on the Town's website and a great resource especially for those new to our community or visiting the waterfront. The guide is available at: SaugeenShores.ca/Be-Water-Safe.
