Saugeen Shores Trails

Saugeen Shores is the home to over 36km of trails. Each trail has a unique experience to offer whether you are walking along our paved Shoreline Trail from Port Elgin to Southampton, through the Woodland and Biener Trails on a natural setting of woodchips and bush scenery or along the stone dust Rail Trail which follows the old CN line through Saugeen Shores.

The residents and visitors are fortunate to enjoy many play experiences in Saugeen Shores. We offer 9 different athletic park venues, 27 playgrounds for children (and adults) of all ages and countless passive parks and green space to enjoy.

Our highlighted park that puts Saugeen Shores on the map is Jubilee Park. It is home to our fully accessible playground, splash pad, accessible washroom, pavilion and ball diamonds. This park is a feature for the community and families travel long distances to enjoy the experience that it offers.

Saugeen Shores Off Leash Dog Park

This is a great fully fenced facility for the residents and visitors of Saugeen Shores. The Off Leash Dog Park is located at 961 Lehnen Street, Port Elgin, ON. The Off Leash Dog Park is open daily year round for dogs and their handlers from dawn until dusk.  All dog owners are subject to Ontario's Dog Owner's Liability Act. All dogs and dog owners must abide by all Dog Park Rules.

Saugeen Shores Pavilions

Our outdoor facilities include several pavilions in Southampton including the newly constructed pavilion at Fairy Lake, the Jubilee Pavilion alongside the Rotary Accessible Playground and Bruce Power Sensory Gardens; The Long Dock Pavilion situated along the beautiful shores of Lake Huron and Pioneer Park at the mouth of the Saugeen River with gorgeous views of Chantry Island.

Port Elgin boasts the North Shore Pavilion nestled in the trees near the Port Elgin harbour as the perfect picnic spot and Emmett McGrath Pavilion front and centre on the Port Elgin Beach, hosting several concerts through the summer months.

Year Round Garbage Bins and Public Washrooms

While many of the garbage bins are removed from parks and trails during winter months due to snow and lack of access for maintenance, a number are left out and maintained in popular locations. The following locations have garbage bins throughout the year:

  • Saugeen Shores Off Leash Dog Park
  • Rail Trail at River St.
  • Rail Trail at 6th Concession (Parking lot)
  • 10th Concession Washroom (Biener and Woodland Trail)
  • Washroom behind Coulter Parkette (BMTS Building)
  • North Shore Park (entering trail from Harbour parking lot)
  • Skate Park
  • Jubilee Park
  • Denny's Dam
  • Fisherman's Park
  • Helliwell Park
  • Rail Trail at South Street

Additional garbage bins that will be maintained seasonally until late fall (Approx. Dec 15th - weather permitting) are:

  • Gobles Grove
  • Port Elgin Harbour (NE wall)
  • Port Elgin Main Beach Parking Lot
  • Port Elgin Main Beach south (Harbour St)
  • Millard Boulevard ( at Flag)
  • Long Dock Pavilion (near Gerry's Fries)
  • Long Dock Parking Area (at Gerry's Fries)

The public washrooms that are open during the winter months are:

  • Southampton Town Hall Washrooms
  • 10th Concession Washroom (Biener and Woodland Trail)
  • BMTS Washrooms (behind Coulter Parkette)
  • The Chamber of Commerce Washrooms in Port Elgin
  • The Rail Trail Washroom at River Street
