COVID-19 update

On Wednesday, January 5 at 12:01 a.m., all indoor sports and recreational facilities including the arenas and Centennial Pool will be closed for at least 21 days. All municipal registered and drop-in programs are cancelled or paused at this time.

  • All drop-in skating and swimming programs (e.g. aquafit, lane swim) are cancelled. Recreation accounts will be credited for any bookings from January 5 onward.
  • Winter swimming lessons and registered January recreation programs are paused until further notice including Learn to Skate, Adult Hockey and Kamps for Kids programs.
  • Patrons wishing to withdraw from a program can request a refund or account credit by email at

Registered arena programs

Parent and Tot Learn to Skate program (ages 3 to 5)

Saturdays 11:10am, January 8 to March 19, Southampton Coliseum

Coaches will lead families through a warm up, group lessons and activities and cool down while guiding parents/caregivers on how to provide hands-on support to their skaters. Participants will start to build the foundation of skating fundamentals.

Adult Beginner Hockey (Level 2)

Sundays 9am, January 9 to March 20, Southampton Coliseum

This program provides you the opportunity to get on the ice and play with others of the same basic skill level. The intention is for everyone to practice, play the game and continue to develop their skills. This is a great next step for those who participated in level 1of the beginner hockey program. There is limited instruction.

Kamps for Kids programs

SEL for Kids (Social and Emotional Learning)

January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7, Southampton Coliseum

This program for ages 4 to 8 years teaches children how to express their emotions appropriately, solve problems, develop a 'growth mindset', building relationships and become thoughtful, respectful and responsible citizens.

Quilting for Kids (9 to 13 years)

January 12, 19, 26, The Plex

Nothing is better than creating something with your own hands! Quilting for Kids will teach kids how to safely use quilting tools to stitch and quilt the basics. Each child will create their very own personalized rag quilt and enjoy the satisfaction of making something truly unique!

Let's Bake! 

February 2, 16, 23, The Plex

Learn to bake for ages 6 to 12 years. Join us for this individual but hands-on program where children will learn basic baking techniques. Jenna from Sweet as Cake Custom Designs will guide children through something different each week.

Kids in the Kitchen (4 to 12 years)

April 6, 13, 20, The Plex

Cooking with kids at any age can be fun! Children will learn how to cook simple, inexpensive, tasty and healthy meals and snacks. Special guests will talk about healthy eating, and teach us how to make healthy recipes.

Kickstart to Kindergarten (3 to 4 years)

May 2, 9, 16, Southampton Coliseum

This interactive program is designed for children ages 3 to 4 years to assist with preparing them for their fun upcoming school adventures. Get a jump start on math, science, literacy, creative arts and activity taught through fun crafts and games.

 Active Kids

Active Kids engages tots and tykes from walking to 5 years in movement and musical based activities that develop agility, balance and coordination skills through play. Caregiver participation required for those 3 and under. 

Program dates: Wednesdays from 5:30-6:15pm, Rotary Hall at The Plex

 PA day, holiday and March Break camps

Kamps for Kids camps offer interactive days full of fun and play to keep kids active, creative and engaged. Days are filled with outdoor time, learning experiences and making new friends. Most days include skating (optional). PA days include a pizza lunch.

Location: Green Room, Coliseum, 9am to 4pm

Camp fee:

  • PA day camp: $65 (pizza lunch provided)
  • March Break camp: $225 (5 days)

What to bring: Two masks, water bottle, nut-free snacks/lunch, backpack, comfortable shoes, dress for the weather, skates and helmet

Program Policies

 Programs and events photo consent

Participants can consent or not consent when registering for programs and events online.

I am a consenting adult/legal guardian and hereby authorize the Town of Saugeen Shores to use my and or my dependent(s) name and or image in its public relations and communication materials. I understand that the photograph(s) taken within a year from today’s date during Town programs, events or in Town facilities may be used in a publication, print advertisement, direct-mail pieces, electronic media (e.g., video, website, social media, etc.) or other form of communication.

In giving my consent, I hereby release and hold harmless the Town of Saugeen Shores and their agents, employees, officials, representatives and contractors from any and all responsibility or liability for damage of any kind suffered in any manner whatsoever. I hereby relinquish any and all personal or proprietary rights I may have in connection with such use. I understand that I will receive no compensation should any photograph of me and or my dependents be used.

 Refund policy

The refund policy applies to dryland and aquatic programs operated by the Department of Community Services (Town-operated) and operated by program providers under contract with the Department of Community Services (Town-contracted). If an exception to this policy applies, it will be indicated at the time of registration.

  1. If a program is cancelled by Community Services, a full or partial refund will apply depending on number of classes attended
  2. Program fees for Town-operated and Town-contracted program, both dry-land and aquatic are refundable up to two weeks (14 days) prior to a program’s start date. A full refund, less the $20.00 administration fee will apply.
  3. No refunds will be issued within two weeks (14 days) of a program start date except for a valid medical reason with a doctor’s note, or if a vacancy can be filled through the waiting list.
  4. For program withdrawal due to medical reasons, the participant will be refunded for number of classes remaining, less the $20 administration fee.
  5. If a refund credit is left on account for future use, the administration fee is not charged.
 Recreation waiver

Participants are required to agree to the recreation waiver at the time of registration.

In consideration of Myself, Son, Daughter or Ward being admitted into the programs operated by any department falling under the auspices of the Department of Community Services, I hereby release the Corporation of the Town of Saugeen Shores from all claims for damages incurred from any accident or injury which is caused by or arises from participation of the applicant herein, during any program, or in any facility on any location, where a program is being conducted. I hereby give permission for the person in charge, to enact the municipal emergency action procedure, including activating the community emergency system, in the event of an accident involving the above-mentioned participant.
