The Town of Saugeen Shores Official Plan sets out how our land will be used for the next 20 years.

Purpose of the Official Plan

Along with showing our commitment to the future growth of Saugeen Shores, the Official Plan is important because it:

  • Ensures that growth is coordinated and meets our needs
  • Helps you understand how your land may be used now and in the future
  • Decides where roads, parks, trails and other services will be built
  • Provides a guideline for our Zoning By-law to set specific regulations and standards
  • Helps us evaluate and settle conflicting land uses while meeting the interests of the Town, County and Province

Finding your property's designation

You can review the following maps to find your property's designation:

Refer to the Official Plan to view policies associated with your property.

Planning for your project

If you are planning to create a new building, our Zoning By-law regulates what you can and cannot do.

If you want to create a new lot or build a subdivision, your project must meet the standards set out in the Official Plan.

You can propose changes to the Town's Official Plan through an Official Plan Amendment. Development Services staff are happy to assist you with this process.

Official Plan Review

Over the next 12 months we are updating our Official Plan. The documents contained on this page were approved five years ago and it is important to regularly review and update them to ensure they continue to be relevant for Saugeen Shores.

Throughout the review process, there will be several ways you can contribute your feedback and ideas. At this stage, we are seeking input on the public’s biggest concerns and how we could improve our land use planning. For now, you can email the Supervisor, Development Services or attend one of our early consultation information sessions or meetings.

Other opportunities will be provided throughout the process, including:

  • An opportunity to stop by and chat with Town staff at the Port Elgin Farmer’s Market on August 14, 2019 and the Southampton Cruiser’s Cruise Nite on August 15, 2019.
  • A public meeting on August 19, 2019 at 6:30 in the Town of Saugeen Shores Council Chambers at 600 Tomlinson Drive. You can view more details in our public notice.

Check back here for information on the Review and for opportunities to contribute your comments.
