UpSkill Tourism Micro-credential Program

Since its inception in fall 2022, the program has issued 544 digital badges and has upskilled/reskilled 123 individuals.

UpSkill is looking to launch a video campaign to capture locations and staff working in the tourism industry that they are educating. They would like to use these videos and interviews in the modules adding an element of authenticity to the learning, while simultaneously highlighting local locations. They are also hoping to interview some executives and managers to further the content and add a personal element to the modules.

If you are interested in your location and team being featured in these videos, please reach out to Pierre Valley at the County of Bruce at PValley@brucecounty.on.ca.

Registration for the fall 2023 semester opens at the end of June for September intake. Please encourage your staff to enroll in the program.

New Program: SkillsNet RTO7 (TSN7)

In collaboration with Destination Northern Ontario (DNO), Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario (NOTO), and the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC), Regional Tourism Organization 7 (RTO7) representing BruceGreySimcoe has partnered to expand Tourism SkillsNet North – an initiative designed to identify workforce labour gaps and match job seekers with available job opportunities within the tourism sector in Northern Ontario. SkillsNet North will now be available in BruceGreySimcoe.

RTO7 will work to connect prospective employees and employees hired after April 1st, 2023 with free, virtual training provided by project partner OTEC. Additionally, RTO7 will work with employment service providers in Bruce, Grey, and Simcoe counties to match prospective employees with available job opportunities within Region 7’s tourism sector.

While the training is free for employees hired after April 1st, 2023, qualified employers will be eligible for a 50% wage subsidy for up to 10 employees. This subsidy is capped at:

  • Seasonal employer (new TSN7 job seeker/employee): $3,000
  • Seasonal employer or year-round employer (returning TSNN job seeker/employee): $2,500
  • Year-round employer (new TSN7participant/employee): $5,000
