The final Council meeting of 2020 was held virtually on Monday, December 14.

Southampton Visitor Centre

Saugeen Shores Council tentatively approved the renewal of the Southampton Arts Centre Agreement for the Southampton Visitor Centre. With this agreement, the Southampton Arts Centre will operate the Southampton Visitor Centre at the historic Town Hall for a one year term.

In 2020, the Southampton Art Centre had the same agreement, and both Visitor Centre and Town Staff were pleased with the service provided. The Southampton Visitor Centre will only be responsible for walk-in inquiries.

Port Elgin Visitor Centre

Saugeen Shores Council tentatively approved the one year agreement with Port Elgin Pumpkinfest for the Port Elgin Visitor Centre. This partnership will be similar to the agreement with the Southampton Art Centre, and will allow Pumpkinfest to operate the Visitor Centre at 559 Goderich St. in Port Elgin for a one year term.

The Visitor Centre in Port Elgin will be open for walk-in inquiries and will be responsible to respond to email and telephone inquiries.

Enhanced Winter Services

Town staff have increased outdoor recreation opportunities for the upcoming winter season to encourage outdoor activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The increase in outdoor recreation includes trail maintenance on the Saugeen Rail Trail, increased snow removal in existing winter facilities, additional washrooms and additional waste containers.

Expanded Polystyrene (Styrofoam) Collection

Saugeen Shores is taking part in a pilot project for Expanded Polystyrene/Styrofoam (EPS) recycling. This project will start in January 2021 and will last for a minimum of a year. EPS recycling will be based out of the Southampton Landfill site.

Physician Recruitment and Physicians Agreements

Three new doctors have committed to practicing in Saugeen Shores now and in the near future. These three agreements are a direct outcome of the physician recruitment program, funded in partnership by the Town of Saugeen Shores, the Municipality of Kincardine and Bruce Power.

To be considered as a patient, residents must register on the Health Care Connect website and maintain their profile.
