Lamont Sports Park Campaign Enters Extra Innings
As the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams campaign winds down, the Committee recognizes two new Home Run donations, and reiterates the support of some previous donors.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 340 has donated $10,000 to the Park’s Phase 2. This donation entitles them to recognition on the Lifetime Donor Board and a banner on the outfield fence of one of the six new diamonds.
“The Port Elgin Legion is pleased to support this exciting outdoor regional recreation facility that will provide positive play experiences for many generations to come,” said Branch President Robert Harrison.
Bruce Power CEO Mike Rencheck and his spouse Carol have personally donated $10,500 to the Park. Mr. Rencheck was instrumental in securing a $250,000 commitment from Bruce Power, and another $225,000 from the company’s suppliers.
“Carol and I are extremely pleased to make a personal contribution to the development of the Park,” said Rencheck. “This venue will contribute significantly to the health and welfare of the community and is an example of a dream becoming a reality. It will be a meeting place where visitors will enjoy recreational amenities while building a lifetime of memories”
Meanwhile Kate Cammidge-Irwin and Susan Terry from Re/Max Land Exchange Ltd. Brokerage were on hand at the Municipal Offices for an official donation photo. The realtors had previously committed to a $10,000 donation.
"We have received so much community support, so we are thrilled to be able to give back by contributing to the new Lamont Sports Park,” said Cammidge-Irwin and Terry. “We know this facility will make our community a better place to live and play."
The fundraising committee presented its final report to Council on Monday night. The campaign has surpassed its initial goal by raising $1.7 million towards the Park’s second phase. Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park officially opens in May of 2023. Construction for Phase 2 will get underway in the summer of 2023, with a planned opening in late 2024/early 2025.
