Mayor's Statement on National Disability Employment Awareness Month
This October, Saugeen Shores is proud to recognize and celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Let us take time this month to acknowledge the valuable contributions of workers with disabilities and promote inclusive employment practices that benefit all Canadians.
The theme for this year’s NDEAM is Championing Disability Inclusion in Employment and calls on us to actively support the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in every aspect of our workforce. Saugeen Shores strives to ensure its hiring and employment practices reflect the belief in equal opportunities for all, and continually works to make its workplaces more accessible and inclusive.
As part of our participation in this year’s NDEAM, Saugeen Shores is proud to join the "Light It Up!" campaign, an initiative of the Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN). On Thursday, October 17, we will light up the Plex and Southampton Town Hall in blue and purple to help spread awareness and recognize NDEAM. This initiative reminds us of our collective responsibility to promote equal opportunities and empower individuals with disabilities to contribute fully to our workforce.
I encourage all residents and businesses in Saugeen Shores to mark National Disability Employment Awareness Month by Lighting It Up! and supporting accessibility in their workplace.
Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive Ontario.
