Mayor’s Statement on the Retirement of Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck
On behalf of the Town of Saugeen Shores, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude and thanks to Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck for the leadership he has brought in advancing clean energy, pursuing innovation in the world of medical grade isotopes, all while enriching local communities.
With the announcement of the Life-Extension Program in 2016, involving the gradual replacement of older systems in the company’s eight reactor units, Mike had a vision to see the Grey, Bruce and Huron region engaged and collectively benefitting from the local opportunities of this investment. Today, with 60 plus suppliers situated in the region, billions being recirculated into the provincial economy all while providing tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, I can say that Mike’s vision has been, and continues to be, realized.
For our local community, under Mike’s leadership, Bruce Power has contributed to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in providing the latest equipment and services to residents and visitors and propelled us closer to our fundraising goals of the soon-to-be built Aquatic & Wellness Centre.
Bruce Power and its supplier partners have also enriched our community through their support of the Lamont Sports Park, providing a broad use gathering place for residents, and the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre, which encourages more people to pursue careers in the skilled trade.
On a more personal level, both Mike and his wife, Carol, have contributed greatly to local healthcare initiatives and charities, from the United Way of Bruce Grey’s Coldest Night of the Year, the Gran Fondo Lake Huron to the Huron Shores Hospice, which Carol is the Board Chair of.
I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Eric Chassard on his promotion as incoming President and CEO. I look forward to continuing the established collaborative and supportive relationship between Saugeen Shores and Bruce Power into the future.
Luke Charbonneau
