Notice of Preliminary Engineering Site Work for High Street Revitalization
As part of a community-driven effort to update Southampton’s High Street, the Town is refining design improvements to the streetscape. These architectural and engineering designs build on a concept created through public engagement conducted by the Southampton BIA.
The Town of Saugeen Shores has engaged R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited to consult on the refined design this year (2024). The Town is planning a three-year phased construction implementation plan:
- Phase 1 (2025) – High Street from Dominion Lookout Point to Grosvenor Street
- Phase 2 (2026) – High Street from Grosvenor Street to Albert Street (Hwy 21).
- Phase 3 (2027) – High Street from Albert Street (Hwy 21) to Victoria Street.
Next Steps
The first stage of the detailed design process is to establish existing conditions along the street through field investigations. Over the next couple of months, crews will:
-
Survey to verify existing ground features within the road corridor and adjacent properties.
-
Test soil to identify underground soil and water conditions to assist in the design and construction of the infrastructure.
-
Utility companies will carry out locates to determine where their underground infrastructure exists (water services, gas, hydro, telecommunications, etc.) These companies will use flags or temporary paint to mark the locations.
This work should not significantly impact adjacent properties.
The public will have opportunities for comments and feedback. The Town will schedule public engagement sessions in Spring 2024.
This work is a Development Services Major Initiative in the 2024 Business Plan passed by Council (p. 58).
