Town Approves Strategic Plan for Council Term
Council has set its long-term plan for the municipality by approving the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. This document is the result of months of public consultation to find out how the community sees itself and the direction it wants Council to take.
The document is based on the following key elements:
- Vision Statement: The Town’s promise to residents and community partners.
- Mission Statement: How the Town works to deliver on that promise.
- Values: A reflection of the community that shapes the culture of the municipal organization.
- Strategic Pillars: Key priorities to realize the Mission and Vision.
- Strategic Directions: The efforts to advance those key priorities.
- Strategic Levers: Key competencies, capabilities, and assets the Town will use to achieve its goals.
“This plan is an expression of our vision for the municipality,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Not only does it help Council to structure our business plans for each fiscal year, but it also allows us to manage long-term growth in a way that improves the lives of citizens.”
The process to build the Strategic Plan began right after the 2022 election. The Town reviewed the Strategic Plan from the previous term, and then built on it using feedback from residents and community partners, as well as Council members and senior administration leaders.
“This document is essential to how the Town functions,” added Chief Administrative Officer Kara Van Myall. “Knowing Council’s overall priorities allows staff to focus its efforts – along with Town resources – to fulfill this Council’s priorities efficiently and effectively. All our plans – including the upcoming Business Plan and Budget – will flow out of our Strategic Plan.”
Council has begun to hear proposals and provide feedback on the 2024 Business Plan and Budget from each municipal division and department. The intent is for Council members to vote on the final proposed Business Plan on December 11th, followed by final approval in January 2024.
