Fluorescent Bulb Recycling

Your household fluorescent tubes and bulbs are accepted at the Southampton Landfill. The tubes/bulbs are taken to a facility where mercury and other hazardous chemicals are properly disposed of.

Mattress and Box Spring Recycling Program

Mattresses and box springs are segregated at the Landfill and can be recycled during landfill hours, costing $20.00 per mattress.

Battery Recycling Program

Your household batteries can be dropped off at the Landfill Site, Town Office or the Public Libraries in Port Elgin and Southampton. Batteries are then taken to a facility and are properly disposed of.

Off-Rim Ontario Tire Stewardship

Tires can be brought to the site during regular landfill hours at NO COST.  Tires must be "off rim" and clean.

Freon Units

Freon units, air conditioners, fridges, freezers, water coolers and dehumidifiers will not be accepted at the landfill site unless they have been certified and tagged as "Freon Free."

Propane Tanks

Tanks that are empty of all propane will be accepted at the landfill site, and then are properly recycled.

Mercury Items

We now accept items that contain mercury: Fire Extinguishers, thermostats, barometers, smoke detectors.

Cardboard Recycling Depots

Cardboard recycling depots are located at:

1. The Port Elgin Sewage Treatment Plant on Lehnen Street

2. The Public Works Garage on Concession 6 at Guyers Drive

3. The Southampton Landfill Site on Concession 14

Ontario Electronic Stewardship

Electrical waste and electronic equipment are accepted at the Southampton Landfill Site at no charge.

The Ontario Electronic Stewardship's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment program helps you to make the right decisio for the environment and keep old computers, televisions and electronics out of the landfill.
