The Town of Saugeen Shores values our rich history and supports education, awareness and preservation of our heritage sites. We participate in several programs to designate heritage properties in our community. Expand the sections below to learn more.

Heritage Property Plaque Program

The Heritage Property Plaque Program identifies architecturally historic properties that are more than 50 years old and significant to the community's heritage. The plaques describe each historic building's year of construction, original owner and their occupation at the time of construction.

The Municipal Heritage Committee runs the plaque program. A booklet of heritage properties with plaques is currently in development.

Provincially designated heritage properties

The Town of Saugeen Shores may designate heritage properties according to Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act, based on criteria set forth in Ontario Regulation 9/06. View our current list of designated properties.

Heritage Register

The Heritage Register provides a listing of historic sites and properties that are tied to the Town of Saugeen Shores' cultural heritage. Properties on the list do not have heritage designation under the Heritage Act. The register is a key document in local heritage conservation efforts.
