Interments

We use the word "interment" to define any burial. This includes putting a casket or urn underground, or putting an urn in our columbarium.

Types of plots you can buy

Single plot

  • A single plot has room for one of the following combinations of interments
    • 1 traditional; OR
    • 1 traditional and 1 cremation: OR
    • 1 cremation; OR
    • 2 cremations; OR
    • 3 cremations; OR
    • 4 cremations.

Cremation Burial Single Plot (Southampton only)

Available at the Southampton cemetery only, a cremation single plot only has room for one cremation interment.

A cremation burial is different than a columbarium niche. A cremation burial includes burying an urn underground. A columbarium is a specialized structure that houses an urn above ground.

Types of burials/interments you can schedule

Traditional burials

A traditional burial is the burial of a full casket. This casket must be placed in a protective vault. Please note that the Town of Saugeen Shores does not sell vaults.

Cremation burial

Cremation burials include the interment of ashes. The ashes must be placed in a protective vault. Please note that the Town of Saugeen Shores does not sell vaults.

Columbarium/Niche

A columbarium is a dedicated structure designed to house up to two urn. Instead of traditional burial, the ashes are placed in specialized compartments called "niches", which are then sealed and inscribed with the person's name and dates. Our niches are 12 inches x 12 inches.

Perpetual Care

A perpetual care cemetery (or endowed care cemetery) is a property where a portion of the purchase price for every plot is placed into a legally protected trust fund. The interest generated from this trust fund pays for ongoing, indefinite grounds maintenance, ensuring the cemetery remains dignified long after all spaces are sold.

What does it mean to buy a plot?

With your purchase, you buy the rights to the plot you have selected. This means that you have the right to be buried in the plot. You also have the right to grant permission for another person’s burial in your plot. This fee also includes a one-time fee for care and maintenance of your plot.

What is included in a plot sale?

A plot sale includes

  • Rights to the land; and
  • Perpetual care (please see our definitions above); and
  • Applicable Taxes.

A plot sale does not include

  • Burial/interment fees

Please see our Fees and Charges table below to see plot or burial pricing.
