Power Outages and Emergencies

We take part in Ontario’s Electricity Emergency Plan to respond to major power disruptions. When needed, the Province of Ontario and energy providers like Hydro One and Westario Power issue public advisories.

Power advisories are issued when electricity is in short supply. You will be asked to reduce and conserve your electricity consumption.

Power Warning are issued when there is a high concern about reliable electricity supply and emergency control actions are needed. You will be asked to immediately reduce your electricity consumption.

If there is a further increase for electricity demand or a reduction in supply, your electricity service may be disrupted for about 30 minutes to an hour. Advance warnings may not be possible for these disruptions.

Power Emergencies are issued when long term service disruptions are needed.

We also have local plans in place to manage power emergencies caused by weather, technical failures, or human actions. During a large-scale outage, please allow Hydro One, Westario Power, the Town and the Emergency Control Group to carry out their work.

Be Ready for a Power Outage

  • Stay tuned to local media for updates from the Province and power providers

  • Keep a battery-powered radio and extra batteries on hand

  • Do not call 9-1-1 for outages—reserve it for real emergencies

  • Learn how to conserve electricity at Hydro One or Westario Power
