Paying Your Property Tax

The Town of Saugeen Shores has a variety of ways that you can pay your property taxes. You can also view billing schedules and due dates on this page.


 

We issue property tax bills twice a year, once at the end of January and once at the end of July. Each tax bill includes two installments. This means your taxes are usually due four times each year.

Property tax due dates for 2026 are:

  • February 20
  • May 22
  • August 21
  • November 20

We process many types of payment methods. Please use the payment method that is most convenient for you.

Pre-Authorized Payment

To enroll in our Monthly Budget Plan or Due Date Plan through pre-authorized payments, please complete our online Pre-Authorized Payment Form. You can also download and complete a physical copy of our Customer Pre-authorized Debit (PAD) Agreement..

The Town currently offers two different pre-authorized payment plans.

1. Monthly Budget Plan

Pre-authorized tax payments are withdrawn from your bank account on the 10th day of each month.

2. Due Date Plan

Pre-authorized tax payments are withdrawn from your bank account on the due date specified by your tax bill.


Internet or Telephone Banking

Most financial institutions offer online or telephone banking payments to the Town as one of their payment options. Have your 19-digit property tax account number handy to register. Mail your cheque or post-dated cheque, along with your tax stubs to:

In-Person or Drop-Box

The Municipal Office (600 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin) is open to the public Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

You can also drop off a cheque or cash payment at the drop-box located outside the front doors of the Municipal Office main entrance (600 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin).

You can now receive your tax and/or utility bills by email. Please complete this form to sign up for electronic invoicing.

To avoid penalties or interest charges on late payments, we must receive your property tax payment at our office on or before the bill's due date.

Penalties and interest charges for late payment are set by municipal by-law in accordance with the Municipal Act. Taxes in arrears will be subject to penalties and interest charges of 1.25% monthly until paid.

Having your mortgage company pay your taxes on your behalf is a private agreement between you and your mortgage company. The Town of Saugeen Shores is not involved in these private agreements.

The Town of Saugeen Shores sends copies of the Interim and Final tax bills to your mortgage company. They then in return pay us the amounts outlined on the billing. 

For questions on your monthly payment please contact your mortgage company. The Town of Saugeen Shores has no communication with your mortgage company in regards to your monthly payment amount. The Town does not administer any part of any private agreement. 

It is your responsibility to ensure the Town has your correct mailing address for billing purposes. To update your mailing address or contact information on your property tax bill, please complete and submit the form.

Please note that a mailing address change completed with the Town does not update your mailing address with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), to ensure you receive all communication regarding your property’s assessment.
