Town of Saugeen Shores Endorses Memorandum of Understanding for the Bruce C Nuclear Project
The Town of Saugeen Shores has endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to guide cooperation between the Municipality of Kincardine, the Town of Saugeen Shores, and Bruce County to support the municipal participation in the federal Integrated Impact Assessment (IA) for the Bruce C Nuclear project (the project).
Bruce Power is seeking to add 4,800 MW of new nuclear generation capacity at its existing site, known as the Bruce C project. With the potential for long-term population growth, expanded service demands and major infrastructure needs across the region, the municipalities will sign the MOU to ensure a collaborative and well-prepared response.
“We are pleased to work alongside our neighbours in Kincardine and our partners at Bruce County as we take this important step in support of the Bruce C project,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “This MOU represents a proactive and collaborative approach to planning for the future. By working together, we can ensure our communities are ready to support major economic opportunities while continuing to deliver high-quality services.”
The MOU outlines how the municipalities will coordinate research, planning, advocacy and engagement efforts throughout the IA process. Under the agreement, each municipality will assess local impacts and opportunities while sharing information and aligning regional coordination to strengthen outcomes.
The municipalities will also coordinate advocacy to federal and provincial governments to support infrastructure upgrades and service expansion required as part of long-term community growth.
Municipal participation in the impact assessment process is included as a Major Initiative in the Saugeen Shores 2025 Business Plan (pg. 12) and the draft 2026 Business Plan.
