Cemeteries

Saugeen Shores maintains five historic cemeteries, dating back to 1851.

They are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to dusk.

Burials occur:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

No interments take place in winter, after noon on Saturdays or holidays, or on Sundays, unless ordered by the Medical Officer of Health.

The Town owns and maintains the following five cemeteries:

Burgoyne Cemetery - 4895 Bruce Road 3, Saugeen Shores, ON N0H 2C0

Pioneer Cemetery - 46 Cemetery Road, Southampton, ON N0H 2L0

Sanctuary Park Cemetery - 837 Eastwood Drive, Port Elgin, ON N0H 2C4

Southampton Cemetery – 445 Carlisle Street, Southampton, ON N0H 2L0

St. Patrick’s Cemetery – 42 Cemetery Road, Southampton, ON N0H 2L0

Visitors are asked to respect the dignity of the cemeteries and others by following these rules:

  • Remove all artificial flowers, potted plants, stands, and ornaments by October 15 (except saddle arrangements).

  • Artificial flowers must be in metal or plastic containers—others will be removed.

  • No glass containers allowed at grave sites.

  • Pets must always be leashed; the Abby Bolton Memorial Off-Leash Dog Park is located beside the Port Elgin Cemetery at 961 Lehnen Street if one wishes to take their pet off-leash.

  • Noise and inappropriate behaviors are not permitted.

  • Speed limit is 10 km/h.

Burial vaults are required for all traditional and cremation interments.
