Skating and Ice Rentals

Public Skating

The regular schedule runs from October 4 to December 21, and January 3 to
March 29 (Coliseum) and April 18 (Plex).

Schedules:

  • Skaters under 10 must be directly supervised by an adult on the ice
  • Skaters under 12 must be supervised by an adult
  • No figure skating except during Open Figure Skate
  • No food or drink on the ice surface
  • No horseplay, tag, racing, rough play etc.
  • No throwing snow
  • No balls, pucks, sticks, chairs, pylons etc. on the ice surface
  • No use of electronic devices (including smartphones)
  • Skate helpers/assists are available for use
  • Strollers may be pushed by an experienced skater
  • Skate in the direction of all skaters
  • Skate guards must be worn in the front lobby areas
  • Use of a helmet is strongly recommended for all skaters
  • Skates must be worn on the ice surface
  • All skates are cancelled December 12 to 14
  • Regular skates cancelled December 24 and 31
  • Regular skates cancelled April 24
  • Holiday schedules in effect December 20 to January 4 and March 16 to 20
  • The arena is closed October 13, December 25 and 26, January 1, April 3 and April 6

Public skating at the Coliseum is on Sundays from 9:00am to 9:50 a.m.

All regular season public, PA Day and Pre-Parade Family skates for the 2025-26 ice season are sponsored by the Walker House.

Public skating at the Plex is on Saturdays from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. Skates are free when sponsored. 

Ice Rentals and Programs

Availability

Use the links below for each arena to view ice availability. Ice rentals are not booked for less than 1 hour (50 minutes of skating time, plus a 10 minute flood).

How to Book

  1. Email the Programs and Facilities Booking Coordinator or call 519-832-2008 ext. 131
  2. Submit your Group Waiver and completed ice rental terms and conditions
  3. Payment due prior to ice rental

Rates

  • Off-Season prime time (anytime, April 27 to September 6): $194.74 +HST per hour
  • Prime time (after 5pm, weekends anytime): $194.74 +HST per hour
  • Non prime time (weekdays before 5pm): $138.60 +HST per hour
  • Last minute ice (booked within 24 hours): $84.15 +HST per hour
  • Holiday rate prime time: $177.23 +HST per hour
  • Holiday rate non prime time: $118.85 +HST per hour
  • Insurance: $6.22 per ice rental under 3 hours, per season rates are available for recurring bookings

Background

The Town of Saugeen Shores is in year two of a 3-year pilot program offering year-round ice at the Saugeen Shores Community Complex (The Plex). Each year, expressions of interest are accepted in October, followed by a review and scheduling, groups are notified of their confirmed times.  Check back in the fall for the 2027 submission period to open.

  • 2026: April 27 to September 6, 2026 
  • 2027: April 26 to September 5, 2027
