The Centennial Pool is reopening July 26. Ice rentals at the Plex are anticipated to begin August 21, 2021. Visit our COVID-19 page for all municipal updates including facilities and amenities.

Registration information

Lessons run daily during their session for 30 minutes. Depending on the session, swimmers will complete 9 or 10 classes. Visit our lessons and programs page for lesson schedules and more information.

Kamps for Kids Summer Day Camp

Join Kamps for Kids for theme-based, half day camps! Camps run from 9am to 12pm. Locations and themes vary. Camps are for ages 4 to 12 years and offer experiential and play-based fun. 

We have some changes this summer to ensure the health and safety of staff and campers. these include:

  • Half day camps only from 9am to 12pm
  • Designated drop off and pick up areas. Parents will not be allowed inside the facility
  • Daily screening that must be completed for each child prior to each day of camp
  • Masks will be mandatory for Leaders and Campers. Campers will be required to bring and wear a mask. 
  • Scheduled washroom, hand washing and hand sanitizing breaks throughout the day
  • Individual camper supplies to be used throughout the week and their own location to store them

Camp dates and descriptions

Colour Me Crazy, July 12 to 16: Join us for a week of all colours and rainbows! We can’t wait to explore creativity with all the colours and sparkles. This week includes tie-dying, colouring, painting, crafting with plenty of colourful materials and plenty of colourful games.

Down to a Science, July 19 to 23: This program will spark your kid’s naturally curious mind while inspiring a love for science! During this week we will be doing all things science experimenting, exploring, observing and recording our findings.

Nature Unleashed, July 26 to 30: Young nature enthusiasts will spend the week exploring and uncovering the beauty and mysteries of our great outdoors through different daily adventures! Each day will be filled with games, exploratory hikes, eco activities and crafts. Come explore with us!

Fun and Fitness, August 3 to 6: Let’s get active! Kids will be engaged in a fun, high energy week emphasizing the importance of having fun! We will focus on fundamental movement skills and developing athletic skills through fun and playful activities.

Sensory Overload, August 9 to 13: Do you like to get messy? This week will be filled with all things sensory and exploring our senses. We will participate in hands on activities to explore different textures, mediums, smells and everything goopy, grimy, and extra slimy!

Wet and Wild, August 23 to 27: There is no better way to embrace the heat of a summer day than a little water play! Get ready for some fun in the sun with some refreshing water activities and games, as well as the splash pad! Bathing suits, towels and sunscreen required!

 Camp locations

All camps run at the Southampton Coliseum except Nature Unleashed. Nature Unleashed runs at the North Shore Park pavilion in Port Elgin.

 Camper drop off and pick up
There will be designated areas for camper drop off and pick up. Masks are required during drop off and pick up.
Snacks
Our programs and facilities are nut and allergy aware. We ask that all families avoid sending peanut or nut products to camp. Please pack a water bottle for camp.
Medical information

Please ensure camper medical information is updated during registration, including an emergency contact. Should a camper require medication while at camp, please inform the Programs and Facilities Booking Coordinator.

In the event of a medical emergency, staff will provide immediate medical treatment, including follow up with EMS if necessary. Parents will be notified in the event of a medical emergency.

Camp attire
Campers should come ready for fun! Sunscreen, a hat, comfortable shoes for walking and weather-appropriate clothing are required. Please send clothes that are comfortable to move in, and that can get messy. The Town of Saugeen Shores is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
 Camp behaviour expectations

We strive to ensure all campers have a great, safe and fun experience at camp. We have fun, play fair, and show respect for ourselves and others. This includes:

  • Respect yourself: Come to camp with a positive attitude and participate so you can have the best experience!
  • Respect others: Stay out of other's personal space, speak nicely and positively to others, listen to your leaders, and follow COVID guidelines. 
  • Respect property and the facility: Touch only what belongs to you, stay within the activity area, and clean up after yourself.

Physical aggression and bullying behaviour may require temporary or full suspension from camp.

Lifesaving Sport (Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club)

Our waterfront fundamental program will operate at the Port Elgin main beach this summer. Programs are available for 5 years of age and older. Visit our swimming page for more information or download the 2021 swimming schedule for session dates, times and fees. 

 Advanced aquatics courses

Whether you want to feel more comfortable with your kids or grandkids around water or you're a teen looking for a career in aquatics, we have the training for you. We'll be recruiting for aquatics staff this fall, it's the perfect time to get certified!

Stay Active Saugeen Shores summer programs presented by Bruce Power

These self-guided programs are brought to you be Bruce Power and designed for all ages. Activities encourage participants to explore the shores while staying active and can be completed from July 1 to September 6.

Kids Summer Fun Crew

Join the Saugeen Shores Summer Fun Crew! Each week you'll receive a letter by mail with a specific challenge to complete. Challenges may include activities like building a sand castle at the beach or exploring a Town trail. Take a picture completing the weekly challenge and submit it by August 27 to earn a chance to win a free group swimming lesson. All members will receive a Summer Fun Crew t-shirt and are encouraged to wear it when completing their challenges.

The first letter will be mailed out the week of June 28. Fun Crew members will then receive a letter a week for the next 8 weeks. Challenges can be completed at the participant's leisure throughout the summer.

Program information
 All-Ages Summer Bingo

Who doesn't love a good game of bingo? Our all-ages summer bingo game is designed for all ages. Participate as a family, with a walking buddy, friends or on your own. Complete a line or the whole card over the course of the summer. Activities on the bingo card may include things like a visit to the farmer's market or enjoying a sweet treat while watching the sunset.

Hand in your completed card at the end of the summer for a chance to win a holiday pool or ice rental during this year's winter or March Breaks. Two winners will be drawn.

Bingo cards will be emailed out the week of June 28.

 Virtual Racing

Come and challenge yourself and your friends this summer with the Saugeen Shores Virtual Race series. Race one event or complete them all, the choice is yours.

Routes

All biking and running races you will choose your route; you can do them on your favourite training or race route. The rest of the races will have a specific route for you to complete in Saugeen Shores.

Races include:

  • 3, 5 and 10 kilometre runs
  • 3, 5 and 30 kilometre bike rides
  • 2 swimming loops
  • 2 du/triathlon courses

For each race you complete and submit your time, you will be entered to win 1 of 3 prizes of $100 in Saugeen Shores Chamber Bucks. Results will be posted and everyone registered will receive a technical t-shirt.

Program Policies

 Programs and events photo consent

Participants can consent or not consent when registering for programs and events online.

I am a consenting adult/legal guardian and hereby authorize the Town of Saugeen Shores to use my and or my dependent(s) name and or image in its public relations and communication materials. I understand that the photograph(s) taken within a year from today’s date during Town programs, events or in Town facilities may be used in a publication, print advertisement, direct-mail pieces, electronic media (e.g., video, website, social media, etc.) or other form of communication.

In giving my consent, I hereby release and hold harmless the Town of Saugeen Shores and their agents, employees, officials, representatives and contractors from any and all responsibility or liability for damage of any kind suffered in any manner whatsoever. I hereby relinquish any and all personal or proprietary rights I may have in connection with such use. I understand that I will receive no compensation should any photograph of me and or my dependents be used.

 Refund policy

The refund policy applies to dryland and aquatic programs operated by the Department of Community Services (Town-operated) and operated by program providers under contract with the Department of Community Services (Town-contracted). If an exception to this policy applies, it will be indicated at the time of registration.

  1. If a program is cancelled by Community Services, a full or partial refund will apply depending on number of classes attended
  2. Program fees for Town-operated and Town-contracted program, both dry-land and aquatic are refundable up to two weeks (14 days) prior to a program’s start date. A full refund, less the $20.00 administration fee will apply.
  3. No refunds will be issued within two weeks (14 days) of a program start date except for a valid medical reason with a doctor’s note, or if a vacancy can be filled through the waiting list.
  4. For program withdrawal due to medical reasons, the participant will be refunded for number of classes remaining, less the $20 administration fee.
  5. If a refund credit is left on account for future use, the administration fee is not charged.
 Recreation waiver

Participants are required to agree to the recreation waiver at the time of registration.

In consideration of Myself, Son, Daughter or Ward being admitted into the programs operated by any department falling under the auspices of the Department of Community Services, I hereby release the Corporation of the Town of Saugeen Shores from all claims for damages incurred from any accident or injury which is caused by or arises from participation of the applicant herein, during any program, or in any facility on any location, where a program is being conducted. I hereby give permission for the person in charge, to enact the municipal emergency action procedure, including activating the community emergency system, in the event of an accident involving the above-mentioned participant.
