Accessing the Harbour by Boat

The Port Elgin Harbour is located 15.2 Mn North of Kincardine Harbour and 53.6 Nm South of Tobermory. To enter Port Elgin Harbour, navigate towards Logie Rock (marked by a light buoy VC2), then follow the range markers (bearing 109°) through the buoyed channel, staying between the seawalls with their respective pier lights, watching for shoals outside the channel, and monitoring VHF channel 68 for staff communication

The harbour supports the following vessel limits:

  • Maximum draft: 10 ft
  • Maximum length: 150 ft
  • Channel Depth: 10 – 14 ft

When entering the harbour, you can use Logie's Rock as a reference point. It is marked by a light buoy and lies two miles west-northwest of Port Elgin. You should travel within the buoyed channel. Range markers with green lights lead boaters in on a course of 109. The channel depth is 10-14 ft from chart datum, but outside of the channel it quickly shallows to as little as 2 ft.

If you need assistance, harbour staff monitor VHF channel 68.
