Development Charges
What are Development Charges?
Development charges are used to pay capital projects that are needed to meet the increased demand for services and infrastructure that is generated by growth. More people mean more vehicles on our roads and more demand for town services.
Development charges are fees charged to each new development that offset these increased costs. Without development charges, the bill for increasing or improving services gets added to the property taxes of current residents. Development charges are payable when a building permit is issued.
Background Study
On April 11, 2023, the Council of the Town of Saugeen Shores held a virtual meeting to present and obtain public input on an amending Development Charges Background Study and proposed amending by-law relating to the Town’s current Development Charges By-law 56-2021.
Enactment of the amending Development Charges By-Law occurred June 13th. View the Notice of the Passing of Development Charges By-law here. Development Charges are levied against new development and are the primary source of funding for growth-related capital expenditures. The amendment will only affect the capital service related to indoor recreation.
