Water Rates and Charges

Our Water and Wastewater Financial Plans outline projected annual rate increases over 15 years to fund the operation, maintenance, and upgrades of our systems. The rate structure ensures that capital charges cover debt, reserves, and major infrastructure improvements, while consumption charges ensure all users contribute fairly. Water rate revenue funds water services; wastewater rate revenue funds wastewater services. 

Upgrades may include: 

  • Water/wastewater line improvements 

  • Pumping station upgrades 

  • Hydrant replacements 

  • Treatment plant enhancements 

With about 30% of Saugeen Shores homes being seasonal, our rate structure ensures all property owners contribute fairly to the fixed costs of year-round infrastructure availability. 

2026 Water and Wastewater Consumption Rates

Water and wastewater consumption charges apply to all properties based on metered water use. 

  • Water - volumetric rate: $1.33 per m³ 

  • Wastewater - volumetric rate: $2.57 per m³ 

    • Residential wastewater usage cap of 70 m³ bi-monthly 

2026 Fixed Water and Wastewater Charges

Fixed charges are based on Equivalent Household Units (EHUs): 

  • Single-family homes and single-owner condos: 1 EHU 

  • Multi-family units (e.g., apartments, duplexes): 0.5 EHU per unit 

  • Special properties: 

  • Campgrounds: 0.3 EHU per site 

  • Motel rooms: 0.2 EHU 

  • Cottage courts: 0.4 EHU 

  • Retirement/nursing homes: 0.2 EHU per unit 

Other commercial properties are billed a fixed rate based on water meter size. Open the chart below to see rates.
