Marriage Licences

Before saying “I do,” you must apply for a Marriage Licence, which can be obtained at the Town of Saugeen Shores Municipal Office within 90 days of your wedding.

Marriage Licences are issued by Appointment Only:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

To apply, you’ll need:

  • A completed Marriage Licence Application, signed by both parties
  • Two pieces of government-issued ID per person (e.g., driver’s license, passport, birth certificate – one must have a photo and signature)

If applicable:

  • Final Divorce Decree or Certificate with court seal (a Divorce Order is not accepted)

Note: If one person cannot attend, the other may submit all required documents on their behalf, including their partner’s ID.

$165.81 (including HST, payable by cash, cheque, or debit card)

Not offered by the Town of Saugeen Shores at this time.

For applicants under 18 years old

Parental or legal guardian consent is required and a Consent to Marriage Sworn Affidavit must be completed.

Divorced Outside of Canada

You must obtain authorization from the Office of the Registrar General before a license can be issued in Ontario.

Required documents:

  • Completed Marriage License Application
  • Original or court-certified Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute (translated into English if needed)
  • Statement of Sole Responsibility (one per applicant)
  • Legal opinion letter from an Ontario lawyer

Once you receive the letter of authorization, bring it along with your application and IDs to the Municipal Office.

Marriage Certificate

After your ceremony, you can apply for your official Marriage Certificate through Service Ontario. Delivery may take several weeks.
