Planning initiatives are structured efforts to guide land use, development, housing, infrastructure, and community growth. These initiatives aim to balance environmental, economic, and social priorities while ensuring orderly and sustainable development.
Planning and Development Services
The Planning and Development Division is responsible for the research, development, and implementation of long-term planning policies in land use planning, economic development, and housing diversity, while administering the Town’s components of the development application review and implementation processes. The division works with the County of Bruce Planning Department and others to support development and planning initiatives in our community.
Planning & Development Applications
The Planning and Development staff are responsible for providing approvals and/or comments on planning and development applications to ensure that development complies with Municipal policies and standards.
Planning notices are issued for all proposals received in the Town of Saugeen Shores for the following:
- Minor variances
- Zoning by-law amendments
- Official plan amendments
- Draft plans of subdivisions/condominiums and consents

Planning studies and guidelines are prepared by the Planning and Development Division with the help from staff in other departments and the County of Bruce. These projects that look at a geographic area or a topic that affects the whole town. Projects usually involve public engagement, undergo technical review and are present to Council and implemented through Town documents such as the Official Plan or Zoning By-law.
