Council Approves 2026 Business Plan
Following Business Plan meetings held on November 12 and 26, Council has voted in favour of the 2026 Business Plan. The amended 2026 Plan includes an inflationary 2.2% levy increase to support municipal operations, excluding Police.
The budget also includes a significant $19 reduction to the Waste Management Fixed Fee and the planned annual increase to the Future Infrastructure Special Levy of $49 for the average household.
"This budget reflects our commitment to making financially responsible investments in Saugeen Shores,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Our plan focuses on core services and vital infrastructure, ensuring that we are building our community in a way that makes life better for everyone.”
Highlights of the Business Plan include:
- Housing Affordability: Expanding housing options through incentive programs and strategic partnerships.
- Healthcare: Implementing recommendations from the Municipal Healthcare Review to strengthen local healthcare access.
- New Nuclear Readiness: Supporting Bruce C Impact Assessment and preparing for growth related to new nuclear build opportunities.
- Pryde AWC: Managing operations and programming for the Pryde Aquatic & Wellness Centre in its inaugural year.
- Municipal Election: Delivering a well-administered election with a focus on voter engagement and accessibility.
- Environmental Initiatives: Advancing climate action through FCM’s Partners for Climate Protection program and the 10,000 Tree Initiative.
When combined with Police, estimated Education, and County budgets, this results in a blended tax rate of 3.82%, or approximately $202 per average household.
A final report will be brought forward on December 8 outlining the approved changes. The Business Plan and budget will be deemed adopted on December 12.
