Mayor Charbonneau delegates authorities under new Strong Mayor Powers

Following the Province of Ontario’s expansion of Strong Mayor Powers to municipalities including Saugeen Shores, Mayor Luke Charbonneau has issued his first three decisions under the new legislation. These decisions delegate specific authorities back to Council and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), reaffirming the Town’s commitment to collaborative governance.

The decisions return the authority to appoint a CAO to Council and delegate staffing and operational responsibilities to the CAO.

“We have built a strong community through collaboration. I remain committed to that approach,” said Mayor Charbonneau. “I trust in Council’s leadership. I am confident in the expertise of our CAO, management and staff.”

The three decisions are:

  1. Delegation of Authority to Appoint a Chief Administrative Officer
  2. Delegation of the Management of the Town's Organizational Structure and Employment Matters
  3. Delegation of Establishing, Determining Functions, Appointing Chairs and Vice Chairs of Committees of Council

Mayor Charbonneau emphasized that these actions reflect a leadership style grounded in cooperation and a strong belief in the ability of both Council and staff to guide the community forward.

“These decisions are about ensuring our municipal government continues to function effectively and in the best interests of the community,” added Mayor Charbonneau. “We want residents to know that our priorities remain focused on serving the public interest and working together to build a stronger Saugeen Shores.”
