Mayor’s Statement: Congratulations to new Chief and Council of Saugeen First Nation

The Town of Saugeen Shores extends its congratulations to Sonya Roote on her election as Chief of Saugeen First Nation and to the incoming Council: Randall Kahgee, Warren H. John, Lester Anoquot, Anthony N. W. Owl, Dwayne A. Nashkawa, Conrad Ritchie, Letitia Thompson, Fay Roote, and Trudy Jacobs. 

The Town recognizes and respects Saugeen First Nation’s leadership, governance, language, culture, and traditions, and values the relationship between our communities. Through the Friendship Accord, our communities have strengthened a foundation of mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. We look forward to continued partnership as we work together on shared priorities and opportunities that benefit residents throughout the region. 

We would also like to thank outgoing Chief Conrad Ritchie for his leadership, collaboration, and commitment to strengthening relationships between Saugeen First Nation and Saugeen Shores. We congratulate him on his election as Councillor and look forward to continuing to work together in his new role. 

On behalf of Council and staff, we wish Chief Roote and the incoming Council every success as they begin this new term of leadership in service to their community.
