Mayor’s Statement on National Day of Mourning
On this solemn National Day of Mourning, we come together as a community to remember and honour those who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or experienced illness due to work-related incidents. This day is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for safer workplaces for all Canadians.
The National Day of Mourning was officially recognized in Canada in 1991, and since then, it has served as a powerful symbol of our commitment to preventing workplace tragedies. As we lower our municipal flags to half-mast to mark this Day of Mourning, we reflect on the sacrifices made by workers across our nation. We acknowledge their vital contributions and the profound impact of their loss on families, colleagues, and community. It is a reminder of the importance of striving for a safer and healthier work environment.
Please take a moment today to remember those who have been affected by workplace tragedies. Let us honour their memory by ensuring that every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.
Together, we can create a safer future, where the well-being of every worker is protected and valued.
