The Town of Saugeen Shores Plan for Expansion of the Saugeen Shores Water Treatment Plant Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Schedule ‘C’

Notice of Commencement: Saugeen Shores Water Treatment Plant

The Town of Saugeen Shores is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Study to plan for the water supply needs of the Southampton and Port Elgin urban areas. The Town of Saugeen Shores 2020 Master Plan identified the need for a Schedule “C” Class EA to review alternatives for expansion of the Saugeen Shores Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to meet the capacity needs for the existing community and anticipated development to the year 2053.

This Class EA process will follow the planning and design process for Schedule “C” projects as described in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Document (as amended in 2024). It is the goal of this study to identify and review alternatives to increase the capacity of the existing WTP within the existing site.

The Town of Saugeen Shores recognizes that public consultation will be a key component of this Class EA and as such a public consultation process will be developed, including two Public Information Centres (PIC). Upon completion of the study, the Environmental Study Report documenting the process and outcomes will be available for a 30-day public comment period. Additional information can be found at the Town’s website at www.engage.saugeenshores.ca/WTP and will be updated periodically through the study.

If you would like to be placed on the mailing list to receive all future notices relating to this Class EA, please send your contact information to either of the contacts listed below.
