Town Recognizes $100,000 donation from Power Workers’ Union for Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre
The Town of Saugeen Shores recognizes and thanks the Power Workers’ Union (PWU) for their generous $100,000 sponsorship of the second level viewing area of the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre (AWC).
“The Power Workers’ Union is proud to be a donor and support the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Saugeen Shores,” said Bob (Bart) Masterson, Power Workers Union Bruce Site Sector 1 Representative. “This centre provides an opportunity for not only Power Worker members but all members of local communities to enjoy wellness and fitness options in a fabulous indoor facility; from swimming to walking, from pickleball to basketball.”
The PWU is a proud supporter of many initiatives in Bruce and Grey with a focus on health, youth, sports, and local service organizations. The PWU has been diligently representing skilled workers in the energy sector for over seven decades with its present name adopted in 1993.
“We are grateful to have the PWU—Ontario’s largest union in the energy sector—actively supporting our community,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “This $100,000 donation to the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre reflects the meaningful role they play locally and their strong commitment to both the community and their workers.”
The PWU’s donation was one of many generous contributions that helped the Town surpass its $3 million fundraising goal for the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre, with a total of $3,135,991 raised over the past two and a half years.
The Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre is a regional hub for recreation and wellness, offering an eight-lane competition pool, leisure pool, fitness centre, walking track, gymnasium, and multi-purpose program rooms that serve people of all ages and abilities. The facility represents a long-term investment in community well-being and connection. Pryde AWC Operations and Management is highlighted as a Major Initiative in the Town of Saugeen Shores 2026 Business Plan (pg. 24), with construction of the facility included in the 2024 and 2025 Business Plans.
