Update: Significant Weather Event and Closures - January 24, 2026

The following updates are provided as of 8:00 a.m., January 24, 2026. 

Municipal Facilities 

  • Port Elgin Plex will reopen at 9 a.m. 

  • Southampton Coliseum will reopen at 9 a.m. 

  • Port Elgin Centennial Pool will reopen as scheduled on Sunday, January 25 for its final day of operations 

  • Southampton Landfill remains closed at this time. It will reopen on Monday, January 26 at 9 a.m. 

Roads 

  • Miramichi Bay Road from South St. to Concession 10 will reopen as of 10 a.m. 

  • In-town roads in Port Elgin and Southampton remain open 

The Town of Saugeen Shores declared a Significant Weather Event due to winter weather, effective 12:15 p.m. on January 19, 2026, and continuing until further notice. 

Declaration of a Significant Weather Event indicates that due to current or forecasted conditions, caution should be used when traveling on municipal roads and sidewalks. It also means the Town may require additional time to clear and maintain roads and sidewalks.
