The Town of Saugeen Shores has declared a Significant Weather Event due to observed and forecasted conditions, effective 8:00 a.m. on February 18, 2026, and continuing until further notice.

Update: Grey Bruce Public Health has lifted the swim advisory for Southampton after receiving test results from a new series of beach water samples that show bacterial levels have returned to within Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines for safe swimming/bathing.

The Town of Saugeen Shores is updating its Transportation Master Plan to reflect growth and change that has occurred in the community since the municipality completed the current plan in 2020. A transportation master plan is one of several strategic policy documents that direct how a municipality will grow and develop over time.
The Town of Saugeen Shores is updating the 2020 Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan for the urban areas of Port Elgin and Southampton. Saugeen First Nation also receives water services from the Saugeen Shores Water System. The update will review existing water treatment, distribution, and storage infrastructure, and sanitary sewage collection and treatment infrastructure. It will also include a review of future growth forecasts and potential future water and wastewater demands to 2045, as it relates to key infrastructure. The Master Plan will serve as a strategic planning document recommending projects, outlining estimated timelines and triggers for implementation.
The Town of Saugeen Shores is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Study to plan for the water supply needs of the Southampton and Port Elgin urban areas. The Town of Saugeen Shores 2020 Master Plan identified the need for a Schedule “C” Class EA to review alternatives for expansion of the Saugeen Shores Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to meet the capacity needs for the existing community and anticipated development to the year 2053.
Beginning Tuesday, May 20th, the Contractor will mobilize a crew to complete Phase 2 of the Goderich Street Resurfacing Project. This phase will contain the Mill Street and Elgin Street Intersections and includes the replacement of brick with the historical maple leaf design, asphalt resurfacing, water distribution system improvements.
The Town of Saugeen Shores (Town) has contracted MacDonnell Excavating Ltd. (Contractor) for the first phase of the High Street Reconstruction project. This phase will span from Victoria Street to Grosvenor Street and includes upgrades such as road and streetscape enhancements, storm sewer improvements, new sidewalks and curbs, and traffic signal upgrades.
Please be advised that the water service to 5007 Highway 21 (Port Elgin Estates & Resort) will be temporarily interrupted due to construction on Goderich Street.
