Saugeen Shores is completing a study to enable the Town to determine and plan for proposed levels of service.  Levels of Service refers to how the Town maintains, repairs, and replaces its core and non-core assets. The current levels of service for these assets were determined in the 2024 Asset Management Plan. The next step is to determine if these levels of service meet the expectations and needs of the community.

The Town of Saugeen Shores invites you to engage with us as we evaluate ways to expand the Port Elgin Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) located at 123 Lehnen Street, Saugeen Shores, ON. The Port Elgin WPCP services the community of Port Elgin which is the largest urban community in Saugeen Shores. The Town of Saugeen Shores’s 2020 Masterplan studies have identified the need for a Schedule “C” Class EA to review alternatives for the Port Elgin WPCP to meet the future 2053 capacity needs for treatment of sanitary sewage generated in the community of Port Elgin.   

The Town of Saugeen Shores is updating the Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan for the communities of Port Elgin and Southampton. The Master Plan was last updated in 2020 and since that time, the Town has experienced significant residential and non-residential growth. The water system also services our neighbours in the Saugeen Ojibway First Nation (SON). The update to the Master Plan will involve a review of existing water treatment, distribution, storage infrastructure, sanitary and sewage collection and treatment infrastructure. The study will also include a review of future growth forecasts and potential future water and wastewater servicing requirements to 2044 as they relate to key infrastructure. Upon completion, the Master Plan will serve as a strategic document for the continued provision of water and wastewater services that will integrate with other major planning, development, and financing plans and policies. The Master Plan will also identify recommended projects and outline estimated timelines or triggers for implementation.

In accordance with 2.6 (a)  of the Procedural By-law, the Town of Saugeen Shores is advising the public that the March 17, 2025, Council (Planning) Meeting is cancelled.

Please note the following restriction in accordance with Town of Saugeen Shores Traffic By-law 68-2021, section 15.13.

Reduced Load Period to be in effect from March 1 to April 16 unless otherwise posted on the Town website. Weight is limited to 5 tonnes per axle. Exception is granted Concession 10 from Highway 21 easterly 830m.

The Town of Saugeen Shores has retained PipeFlo Contracting Corp. to carry out sanitary sewer lining work as part of the High Street Reconstruction Project. The work will take place from 173 High Street to 233 High Street, starting the week of February 24, 2025, weather permitting.

Please be advised that the Municipal Heritage Committee Meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today, February 19, will now be held virtually.

Council Meetings have returned to the Council Chambers in the Municipal Office (600 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin). The first meeting in the newly renovated space will take place Monday, February 10, 2025.

Council meetings are open to the public to attend. The public can also watch the livestream of the meetings on the Town's YouTube Channel.

Aquafor Beech Limited, in partnership with the Town of Saugeen Shores, is initiating a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify preferred approaches to address stormwater system concerns at 5 outlets: Adelaide Street (No. 11), Island Street (No. 12), Bay Street (No. 13A), watercourse south of Bay Street (No. 13B), and Huron Street South (No. 14). The study area includes municipal lands and easements along the catchment areas between High Street and South Street.
