Port Elgin Main Beach, Southampton Beach posted unsafe for swimming
Grey Bruce Public Health has posted Port Elgin Main Beach and Southampton Beach as unsafe for swimming after water-sampling results showed bacterial levels exceeding Ontario Ministry of Health standards.

As part of the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) Connecting Link Program, funding has been allocated for various rehabilitation works along Goderich Street (South-end of Port Elgin Concession 6 to Concession 10 (North-end of Port Elgin). The project will involve the resurfacing of the asphalt on Goderich Street, as well as the restoration of the historic brick intersections in the downtown Port Elgin. Additionally, there will be minor underground infrastructure upgrades.
Saugeen Shores is completing a study to enable the Town to determine and plan for proposed levels of service. Levels of Service refers to how the Town maintains, repairs, and replaces its core and non-core assets. The current levels of service for these assets were determined in the 2024 Asset Management Plan. The next step is to determine if these levels of service meet the expectations and needs of the community.
Since January 2025, the Town of Saugeen Shores has received several harassment complaints filed by Town staff involving non-employees. The Town takes these matters very seriously.

The Port Elgin WPCP services the community of Port Elgin which is the largest urban community in Saugeen Shores. The Town of Saugeen Shores’s 2020 Masterplan studies have identified the need for a Schedule “C” Class EA to review alternatives for the Port Elgin WPCP to meet the future 2053 capacity needs for treatment of sanitary sewage generated in the community of Port Elgin.
